Calibration is a crowded word. Photographers mean a colour profile. Lab techs mean a scale. Machine-learning decks mean a reliability diagram. People searching it on this site usually want the judgment meaning, and they bounce when the first screen is a camera.
What calibration means here: matching the strength of a judgment to the strength of the evidence, then updating when the facts move. Confidence is a report, not a personality trait. A loud claim with a thin source is a calibration failure, not conviction.
Not a feeling
You cannot tell, from the inside, whether your certainty matches reality. That is a structural problem, not a character flaw. The feeling of being sure is cheap. It arrives with a tidy sentence. It is the same feeling whether the second line has a source or a blank.
The repair is not a better adjective. Write three lines.
- The claim.
- The evidence.
- A percentage you would actually bet.

Not a psychometric product

Evaluate the reasoning, not the fluency is the adjacent operator test for model output. Fluency is the cheapest thing a model produces. Calibration is whether you were entitled to believe it.

- What would move you 20 points?
- What evidence would retire it?
- Did anyone write that down before the result landed?
